Live Sensor Pre-Order Terms
This page covers the Protern Sensor (Live) pre-order: the offer, when the sensor ships, when your card is charged, and how connectivity pricing works on pre-orders.
The pre-order offer
The Protern Sensor (Live) is open for pre-order now. Two codes are in circulation:
- 20% off the retail price for existing or prior Protern customers.
- 40% off the retail price for customers who bought a Protern Sensor in January 2026 or later.
The code you qualify for is in the pre-order email we sent you. Enter it at checkout and the code reduces the price. To protect these offers, we do not publish the codes on this page.
Both codes apply only to the Protern Sensor (Live) product. They do not apply to the Protern Pack (Live) or the Protern Bib (Live), which are sold at retail. One use per customer. Both codes expire on September 30, 2026.
We reserve the right to refuse a code applied by a buyer who does not qualify. If you are an existing customer who has already used your code and need to order a second Live Sensor for another athlete, email support@protern.io and we will help.
Connectivity pricing on pre-orders
Connectivity pricing on a pre-order depends on the order date. Pre-orders placed on or before Friday May 15, 2026 qualified for pre-sale pricing on Live connectivity. Pre-orders placed after May 15 are at the standard rate. Whichever cohort you are in, the terms you qualified for at order are locked in.
Pre-orders placed on or before May 15, 2026
- Season and Season+ plans: pre-sale pricing is a reduced rate on the season block. Season plans are 50% off (three of six months). Season+ plans are 25% off (three of twelve months). You pay the pre-sale rate once and it covers the full season.
- Monthly plans: price is unchanged. Pre-orders placed on or before May 15 receive three months of waived billing on activation.
Pre-orders placed after May 15, 2026
- Season and Season+ plans: standard rate. The full season block is paid up front at the regular price.
- Monthly plans: price is unchanged. The first month of monthly billing is waived from first activation.
The cohort is set by the order date, not the activation date. Connectivity is optional. The sensor works fully offline over Bluetooth or USB if you choose not to activate it. See the connectivity page for current rates and plan details.
When your sensor ships
Updated May 19, 2026: the first batch ship date moved from June 15, 2026 to the week of July 6, 2026 because of GPS chip lead time. Every other component is in hand. Pre-order customers have been notified by email.
The first batch of Protern Sensor (Live) units ships the week of July 6, 2026. Pre-orders placed after the first batch fills will move to the next batch and keep the same terms, including the connectivity terms you qualified for at order.
If this ship date slips by more than two weeks, we will email every pre-order customer before the date passes.
Shipping costs
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your delivery address. There are no country restrictions on pre-orders, barring any international sanctions or Canadian export restrictions.
Bib sizing
The Protern Sensor (Live) ships with a new Protern Bib. You select your bib size at pre-order. Bib size is a product option on the Live Sensor and Live Pack pages.
When your card is charged
Your card is charged in full at pre-order. If you change your mind before your sensor ships, email support@protern.io and we will issue a full refund.
How activation works
Connectivity starts the day the athlete first activates the sensor in the Protern app. Not the order date. Not the ship date. You choose when to activate - the sensor records offline over Bluetooth or USB until you do. A credit card is required at activation.
Season and Season+ plans
Season and Season+ are pre-purchased blocks of time paid up front. The rate you paid covers the full season block (Season: November 1 to April 30; Season+: June 1 to May 31). There is no monthly clock and no grace period - the rate is reflected in the up-front price.
Each plan includes a monthly data allowance: Live is 20 MB per month (roughly 22 hours of training), Live+ is 30 MB. Overage is charged at $0.75 USD per megabyte, billed through the Protern app to the card on file. The Protern app has an offline mode that pauses mobile data while keeping the sensor recording.
At season end the plan renews at the standard rate. Renewal is opt-in - nothing renews without your action.
Monthly plans
Monthly plans are billed in the Protern app per calendar month. The standard rates are $22 USD per month (Live) and $27 USD per month (Live+). Pre-orders placed on or before May 15, 2026 receive three consecutive months of waived billing from first activation. Pre-orders placed after May 15 receive one month.
- Consecutive calendar months from activation. The waived months run back to back. They cannot be paused, banked, or split across a training break.
- No extension for unused weeks. If the athlete takes time off during the waived months, the period keeps running. Protern does not extend it.
- Data allowance is the same as other plans: 20 MB/month on Live, 30 MB/month on Live+. Overage is $0.75 USD per megabyte, billed to the card on file.
When the waived months end, billing resumes at the standard monthly rate. If you want to stop, cancel in the Protern app before the next billing cycle. The sensor keeps recording offline over Bluetooth or USB either way.
If you change your mind
- Before your sensor ships: email support@protern.io for a full refund.
- After your sensor ships: returns follow our standard return and refund policy. Email support@protern.io to start a return.
- Cancelling a committed connectivity plan: Season and Season+ plans are paid up front and are not refundable after activation. You can decline to renew.
- Cancelling a monthly plan: cancel in the Protern app before the next billing cycle. Remaining waived months do not carry forward and are not refundable.
