Why connectivity
Feedback on the lift. Not in the van.
An athlete crosses the finish. Before they reach the lift line, the time, splits, speed, and line are on your phone. You ride up with them and talk through the run using the numbers.
Film a run with a phone and the clip arrives with the data already on the picture, shared to every coach and athlete on the team. Film with a video camera and the data is on the clip as soon as you import it.
At the end of the day, nothing changes hands. No collecting sensors. No reminders to sync before bed. The athlete charges the sensor overnight and goes.
That is what mobile connectivity adds. The sensor also works fully offline, over Bluetooth or USB.
Live connectivity
How connectivity works
The Protern Sensor (Live) has a built-in modem that connects to cellular/mobile networks worldwide. There are no SIM cards to install, no roaming to configure, and nothing for the coach or athlete to set up. Turn on the sensor and it connects automatically.
Connectivity is optional. Without a data plan, the sensor works fully offline - all data is collected on-device and uploaded via Bluetooth or USB. With Live connectivity, data streams automatically to the server in real time.
3 months free with every Live sensor
Every Protern Sensor (Live) pre-ordered before May 15 includes 3 months of free Live connectivity on activation. Try it, see the difference, and decide whether to continue.
Connectivity plans
Live connectivity comes in two tiers. Both deliver the same real-time experience - instant run data, automatic cloud sync, and data-overlaid video. The difference is the monthly data allowance.
Live
Real-time run data, automatic cloud sync, and instant data overlays on video. 20 MB data allowance per month (roughly 22 hours of streaming).
Live+
Everything in Live, with a larger 30 MB data allowance per month (roughly 33 hours of streaming) for athletes with higher training volume.
Winter season plans (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
For athletes who train during the northern hemisphere ski season.
Season Live

- 20 MB monthly allowance (roughly 22 hours of streaming)
- November 1 to April 30
Season Live+
- Real-time data and video overlays

Year-round plans (Jun 1 - May 31)
For athletes who train year-round, including camps and early snow.
Season+ Live

For teams
Team connectivity
Teams that purchase connectivity directly (one invoice, single billing contact) qualify for pooled data and reduced rates. Each athlete contributes their allowance to a shared team pool, which provides additional flexibility for athletes with higher training volume.
Team connectivity requires a minimum of 10 sensors. Tell us about your program to get started.
Data and offline details
Overage rate
$0.75/MB if you exceed your monthly allowance. In practice, most athletes stay well within their plan.
Offline mode
Pauses connectivity streaming while keeping the sensor recording. All data is stored on-device and can be transferred via USB or Bluetooth. Useful when you want to conserve data or are in an area with limited coverage.
No coverage? No problem.
If the sensor loses signal during a session, all data is stored on-device and uploads automatically when connectivity returns. No data is lost.
Coverage
Global coverage in over 100 countries
The Live sensor connects across two coverage zones. All customers pay the same price regardless of location.

Training in Chile?
Chile is the one exception. Mobile service there launches in 2027. Teams training at Portillo, Valle Nevado, or La Parva before then sync the sensor over Bluetooth or USB, the same way offline use works. All other countries in Zone A and Zone B have active coverage at launch.
