Protern Cloud: automatic video sharing inside Protern Video

Getting video from the hill to the right people has usually meant exporting files, sending links, or moving footage between devices. It worked, but it added extra steps at the end of already busy training days.

Protern Cloud removes most of that overhead.

Protern Cloud is now available in Protern Video and allows video to upload and appear automatically on the right devices and accounts, without having to manage files or use third-party tools.

This post explains what you will notice right away and shows a few common ways teams are using it.

What Protern Cloud is

Protern Cloud allows Protern Video to upload and share video between:

  • your own devices
  • coaches and athletes already linked within a team

Instead of exporting video or sending files manually, video appears directly in Protern Video for the people who need it.

Protern Cloud is built into Protern Video and is available to anyone with a valid Protern Pass.

What you will see right away

Protern Cloud is turned on automatically with a conservative setup.

New videos:

  • upload automatically
  • are shared as Private, meaning only you can see them across your own devices

Videos are not shared with athletes or other coaches unless you change sharing settings.

Older videos are not uploaded automatically, but you can select one or more videos in the gallery and choose Upload to Cloud if you want them available elsewhere.

Recommended setups (quick recipes)

These are common ways teams are using Protern Cloud. You do not need to match these exactly, but they are good starting points.

1. Coach filming on phone during training

Best for: daily training and fast feedback.

Typical setup:

  • Film with Protern Video on your phone
  • Upload new videos automatically
  • Share with Individual Athlete or Team
  • Allow mobile and WiFi connections

What this gives you:

  • Athletes see their run shortly after it is filmed
  • You keep filming instead of stopping to send video
  • Athletes can review on the lift or between runs

2. Camera with TimeLink, review later on laptop

Best for: higher-quality video and deeper review.

Typical setup:

  • Film with a camera and TimeLink
  • Import video on your laptop
  • Upload when the video is assigned to an athlete or linked to data
  • Share with athletes after training

What this gives you:

  • Clean, organized video with data
  • Automatic delivery to athletes once review is ready
  • No exporting or file management at the end of the day

3. Video processing while coaches stay on the hill

Best for: starting review sooner when staff are spread out.

Typical setup:

  • Coaches upload video as they film or import
  • Share with a specific coach or video tech
  • Upload over WiFi or mobile as available

What this gives you:

  • Video review starts sooner
  • Less waiting at the hotel
  • Better use of staff time

Race day: get video to the start faster

During races or race training, coaches are often filming from multiple places down the course.

With Protern Cloud:

  • coaches continue filming or importing camera clips
  • video appears for staff and athletes at the start without chasing files
  • multi-cam can be created quickly when multiple angles are available

This makes it easier to make last-minute tactical adjustments without managing chat threads or waiting for someone to arrive with an SD card.

Control and limits

Protern Cloud is automatic, but coach-led.

  • coaches decide who video is shared with
  • athletes cannot share videos with others
  • sharing stays inside the team structure
  • video is not publicly accessible

If someone does not want shared videos arriving on a device, they can disable incoming shared videos in settings.

Tips for older video

If you plan to upload a large backlog of older videos, do it on stable, fast WiFi.

Protern Cloud is new and will continue to improve. If you run into issues or have feedback, we want to hear it.
